Description

A unique collection in a unique museum that has been successfully integrated into the surrounding public space areas of Praça do Império, Jardim de Belém and Jardim Afonso de Albuquerque. The National Coach Museum building itself is not just a cultural venue, but also a public space. Two separate buildings – one white and opaque, the other made of glass and exposed concrete – house the programme and define new exterior spaces. A large nave stands out as the main exhibition area, and a public walk/cycle path leading to the River Tagus is yet to be built. The street is extended by and merges and interacts with the museum.
