Description

This building and its garden, which merge perfectly to form a unit, are regarded by Lisboans as theirs and used intensively on a daily basis. Opened in 1969, the Gulbenkian was listed as a National Monument on the basis of the recognition of its outstanding architectural and landscaping qualities. The most recent landscaping intervention in the gardens was the work of Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles. Recently the name of the Centre for Modern Art (opened in 1983) was retired and Calouste Gulbenkian Museum is now used for both buildings and the collections they house: the Founder and Modern collections.
